Acura 2022 NSX Type S Specifications
In 2016, Honda finally launched a new generation of the NSX supercar after many delays. It came with an electrified powertrain and only under the noble Acura label. With the model year 2022 the death knell rang again for the NSX. The mourning community, however, Honda still happy with a final edition. The Acura NSX Type S was unveiled at the Monterey Car Week. Only 350 examples were offered worldwide, 300 of which were reserved exclusively for the U.S. market.
For the finale, Honda went all out again. While the NSX with its 3.5-liter V6 biturbo hybrid powertrain previously produced 581 horsepower, the Type S enters the finale with a full 600 horsepower. Maximum torque also increases and is now stated at 667 Nm. The extra power is generated by new intercoolers, new turbochargers for the V6 with a six percent increase in boost pressure, a 20 percent increase in battery capacity (now 1.3 kWh) and a ten percent increase in battery output (now 60 kW).
A wider track on both axles also ensures even more cornering speed. More grip is provided by special Pirelli P-Zero tires in the dimensions 245/35ZR19 at the front and 305/30ZR20 at the rear. The standard Brembo six-piston calipers are painted red. A carbon-ceramic brake system is available as an option. What all this brings in km/h and seconds, Acura does not reveal yet.
Visually, the Type S sets itself apart with a new front apron with enlarged and additional air intakes and a carbon diffuser borrowed from the GT3 race car. Carbon also provides the material for the front spoiler, the rear spoiler lip, the side sill panels and the complete roof. The mirrors, door handles and exhaust tailpipes have a black finish. The lights at the front and rear have been darkened and the engine has been given a red cover. In addition, numerous Type S labels can be found on the body.
