The real LB-Works Honda NSX-R
Honda presented the NSX-R the way the Japanese love it: in white. The color suits the racer, looking as sporty as a judo suit with a black belt.
The designers of the interior did not act businesslike at all when they dipped the seats and carpets in a blazing red. The compact Momo leather steering wheel and the speedometer, which reaches up to 300 km/h, don’t look the least bit undercooled either.
Speedo stop is hardly to be expected: The engine has not undergone any changes apart from optimized crankshaft drive. Officially, that still means 280 hp. In the past, that might have been a spectacular claim, but today it’s just enough to keep young guns like the VW Golf R32 with 241 hp at bay. Or so they think. Wrong again.
In no time at all, the road warrior jumps over the 100 km/h mark, and 200, 250 km/h are quickly targeted. Apparently, there’s considerably more than 280 hp on board – but don’t tell anyone: the truth of more than 300 hp is considered unseemly by the Japanese. The hard chassis, the rough gearshift and the steering without power assistance are uncompromisingly honest. Thus, the NSX is kept under control – in fast curves as well as on the highway. There, the left-hand drivers willingly make way. The rare white racer must seem to them like a car from another planet. And somehow they are right …
