In the future, Ken Block will be shooting his tarmac rings for Audi. Accordingly, the Gymkhana videos will now become short action films under the working title Elektrikhana. In addition to Ken Block, the Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron, which was specially developed for drifting, will play the main automotive role. The first Elektrikhana video was released on October 25, 2022. Shortly before that, the Audi S1 Hoonitron is shown in its full sponsor outfit for the first time.
Compared with the version presented by Audi at the end of 2021, only the look changes. The paint scheme is now dominated by the Audi sports colors of white, black and red. A little gray has been sprinkled in here and there. The sponsors’ logos are distributed over the entire car. The white five-spoke rims are also new.
But back to the hardware. The Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron now presented is formally reminiscent of the legendary Audi Sport Quattro S1, with which the Ingolstadt company once dominated the hill climb at Pikes Peak. In particular, the spectacular aerodynamics with the large wing seem to originate from the former hillclimb racer. However, Audi won’t let us look deep into its technical cards. Only this much is revealed: Two electric motors, all-wheel drive, power in abundance, a chassis made of carbon fiber and full safety standards of the top motorsport authority FIA – these are the key data of the vehicle.
Regarding the performance, driver Block only says: “I know a lot of cars with combustion engine and transmission, but here I had to learn a lot of things anew. It’s a completely new experience to go from a standstill straight into a donut at 150 km/h – using only the right foot. We worked with concentration so that the car and I got used to each other.
Thanks to the whole team at Audi Sport for the great collaboration.” The S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron is probably the most expensive drift car Ken Block has ever driven. Audi itself does not provide figures. Block and the Hoonigan team estimate the cost at around ten to 12 million dollars and the power at somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 hp.
