McLaren SLR 722 Edition CSR2, best tune and shift pattern

The McLaren SLR 722 Edition is the CSR2 Milestone Car of Season 157.

Obviously, the SLR 722 Edition is not one of the fastest cars in Tier 5.

McLaren SLR 722 Edition SPecifications

The new SLR was first shown at the Detroit Motor Show in January 1999.

Gullwing doors, 558 hp, 700 Nm, a length of 4.6 meters, a top speed of 320 km/h and 1400 kg were mentioned as key data. Carbon fiber was announced as the primary material, Formula 1 technology was to be found under the skin. A special feature of the SLR Vision was a steering wheel flattened at the top, at the upper end of which the pilot looked down on the instruments. A gear stick was missing, but there was a joystick instead.

At that time, it was not expected that this car would ever make it into series production. The expensive construction in particular was considered an obstacle.

At the IAA in September 1999, a roadster study was presented alongside the coupé. Mercedes-Benz had already given the go-ahead for the construction of the super sports car much earlier, in July 1999. A market launch in 2003 was announced and development costs of around DM 400 million were quoted. It was also announced that the cars would be built by F1 partner McLaren in Great Britain, about 500 units per year, which corresponded to a 20 percent market share in the super sports car segment according to calculations at the time.

Little had changed in the specifications; the carbon-fiber monocoque construction and a V8 engine with supercharger, which was to come from AMG, remained.

Quite expensive

The first buyers of the SLR were entrepreneurs, decision-makers, opinion leaders, gentleman drivers and connoisseurs, at least those are the people the SLR Club, which was founded especially for this purpose, lists as members today. They had to invest at least EUR 435,000 to come into possession of the coupe. But the price could quickly climb higher if, for example, the 19-inch wheels (EUR 9860) or the leather interior “Silver Arrow Leather 300 SL” (EUR 10,440) were added. And if you didn’t order early, the price continued to rise year after year; in 2007, the base price was already EUR 452,200.

Even more exclusive: the McLaren SLR 722 Edition

But it got even more expensive if you ordered the McLaren SLR 722 Edition (C 199 E 55 ML), which was available from 2006 and limited to 150 units. This cost EUR 464,000 and included more than 300 modified parts and an increase in power to 650 hp. In addition to highly visible lettering, the package included more dynamic suspension tuning, optimized aerodynamics and an emphatically sporty interior.
