The three-seater Hyper GT of the modern era accelerates from 0 to 300 km/h in just 12.8 seconds, thanks to hybrid technology with a V8 engine and 1050 hp system output.
By comparison, the P1 extreme sports car needs 16.5 seconds in this discipline. The Speedtail’s propulsion only ends at 403 km/h. Further performance data and details on the distribution of hybrid power are largely kept under wraps by the British.
The breathtaking teardrop-shaped body extends to 5.20 meters in length, yet weighs only 1430 kilograms when dry. McLaren achieves this with consistent lightweight construction. A carbon monocoque specially developed for the Speedtail accommodates three passengers, with the driver seated in the center as in the F1.
The outer passenger seats are integrated into the monocoque, again saving crucial kilos of weight. The driver looks out onto a futuristic and strictly symmetrical cockpit with no fewer than five screens.
Many functions, such as operating the transmission and setting the driving modes, are integrated into the overhead console. The two outer screens take over the function of the exterior mirrors, which were omitted from the Speedtail for aerodynamic reasons. Instead, two small cameras extend out of the side of the body on the McLaren Speedtail.
