Ferrari FXX K Evo specifications

The real Ferrari FXX K Evo

In truth, customers didn’t buy a car with the Ferrari FXX-K Evo. Because a car can be driven – from A to B, or in circles. But you can’t do any of that with this car. The Ferrari FXX-K Evo is not street legal, and you can’t even compete in the existing racing classes. No, the customer buys nine weekends.

On these nine weekends – between March and October 2018 – Ferrari has invited customers to the XX program on the racetrack. This is not as pointless as it sounds. After all, firstly, most cars in this price category (the predecessor cost 2.2 million euros) are likely to be moved significantly less. Secondly, with 1050 hp from twelve cylinders, an instructor and a race supervisor are not a stupid idea.

The Ferrari FXX K Evo is the re-tweaked version of the brand’s most brutal car. In 2013, the Italians brought the LaFerrari to the road. Its racetrack version, the FXX-K appeared in 2014, so now its Evo variant. Ferrari launched the XX program in 2005. It serves to further develop the vehicles. Here, the findings from the various racing classes are to flow together and form new vehicles and technologies.

Ferrari reveals little about the car itself. They have concentrated on weight and aerodynamics – without, however, saying what the Ferrari FXX-K Evo actually weighs. The Italians only disclose the downforce data, which we don’t want to withhold. The rear wing provides 640 kilograms at 200 kilometers per hour, and 830 kilograms at 350 kilometers per hour – which is also the top speed.

The downforce can compete with cars in the GT3 and GTE classes. Which was also the declared goal. To achieve this the engineers needed nearly a year. Mainly they spent time in the wind tunnel and in front of the monitors of the simulation programs. Compared to the initial car, the LaFerrari, the downforce coefficient has improved by 75 percent – says Ferrari. In the truest sense, we’ll probably never “experience” what that actually means.

Accordingly, some details on the hull and suspension had to be adjusted. There’s also a new steering wheel and a 6.5-inch screen for the rear-view camera. By the way, the “K” in the name stands for the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). In other words, the brake energy recovery system that was used in Formula One from 2009 to 2013 – then came ERS.
