Ferrari F8 Spider Specifications

Real life F8 Spider

Unsurprisingly, the successor to the Ferrari 488 Spider is called the F8 Spider and largely reflects the strengths of its fixed-roof brother.

The open-top F8 needs 14 seconds to completely fold or unfold its roof. All this at speeds of up to 45 km/h. Compared with its predecessor, the new convertible is 20 kilos lighter. However, it is also 40 kilos heavier than its main rival McLaren 720 S Spider.

Ultimately, the good stuff weighs just over 1,500 kilos. On the plus side, there’s the traditional optimization of aerodynamics (Ferrari is talking about a 10 percent improvement) and a 50-horsepower increase.

Like the coupe, the F8 Spider uses the 3.9-liter biturbo V8 with 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque. It goes from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, and the 200 mark is reached after 8.2 seconds. Compared with the 488 Spider, these are improvements of 0.1 and 0.5 seconds respectively. The top speed also increases, by 15 to now 340 km/h.

The increase in performance was achieved by adapting the intake system of the 488 Challenge race car. Its Inconel exhaust manifold also saves 9.7 kilos in weight. Engine upgrades from the 488 Pista also contribute to the weight reduction.

In addition to the impressive longitudinal dynamics, the engineers from Maranello have also further developed the handling of the Ferrari F8 Spider. Among other things, the FDS+ driving dynamics control system is now also activated in Race mode and is integrated into the latest version of the “Side Slip Control System” for controlling drift angles. This should enable the Ferrari F8 Spider to be controlled safely even at the limits.
