With the Bugatti Bolide, the French noble manufacturer pulls out all the stops: the hyper sports car has a power-to-weight ratio of only 0.67 kg/hp. Series production? Not impossible!
If you think you’ve seen it all at the French small-series manufacturer, you’ll be proven wrong with the Bolide. The Frenchmen screw up the power of the well-known eight-liter W16 engine to 1850 hp and plant it in such an uncompromising chassis that the data sheet ends up with the fabulous power-to-weight ratio of 0.67 kilograms per hp. Who would like to do without calculating: Only 1240 kilograms empty weight brings the Bolide on the balance. This should not only enable driving dynamics similar to those of Formula 1 cars, but also a top speed of over 500 km/h.
Theoretically, the extremist circles the demanding Nordschleife in 5:23.1 minutes. This would put him on a par with the record-holding Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo. Stefan Ellrott, Head of Technical Development at Bugatti, puts it in a nutshell: “The Bolide is the ultimate answer to the question of what would happen if Bugatti were able to build a race track-compatible hyper sports car that meets the safety requirements of the FIA. Designed around the W16 powertrain with a minimum of bodywork and incredible performance data.
The result is the smallest possible envelope to allow the W16 to unfold freely, for a breathtakingly high-performance vehicle”. A series production of the Bolide? Not impossible.
