When you spend over $3 million on a Bugatti hypercar, the world is your oyster when it comes to features. The brand’s customer-only configurator offers dozens of options for colors, trims, and styling elements. If you don’t find what you like in the regular options list, Bugatti will make just about anything you want. Usually it’s a special color combination, custom interior embroidery, or other relatively minor things. But that’s increasingly not enough for many Bugatti customers. That’s why the brand has launched a special program for true customization called Sur Mesure.
To show what Sur Mesure can do, Bugatti has unveiled a fantastic Chiron Pur Sport developed under this program. This Chiron, named Grand Prix, was inspired by the Bugatti Type 31 in which Louis Chiron and Achille Varzi won the 1931 French Grand Prix. The exterior colors were designed specifically for this car and pay homage to the racing cars of the 1920s and 1930s. The hand-painted number 32 on the doors is the same racing number that Chiron used.
The front and rear fenders feature a spectacular hand-painted EB pattern that blends with the red accents. The Alcantara interior door panels feature a matching hand-stitched layered pattern. Both of which required the Sur Mesure team to develop new production techniques to pull off. The interior also features a hand-painted inscription in a unique black anodized aluminum inlay in the center console, special door sills and headrest stitching, and other subtle details.
Of the 500 Chirons built, only about 40 seats are currently available, all for the Pur Sport and Super Sport models. Some of these will almost certainly be Sur Mesure models, but the program really gets exciting with Bugatti’s next-generation hypercar.
