The 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is currently at the top of the performance hierarchy of the legendary 911 nameplate. With its highly ventilated body and striking rear wing, it is the most powerful production 911 that Porsche has ever built. The GT2 RS has set lap records on circuits such as the Nürburgring Nordschleife and more recently on Road America. During our annual Blitzrunde in 2018, we drove one equipped with the Weissach package, which crushed the 755 hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the sensational McLaren 720S.
The 911 GT2 RS is what happens when you combine a light sports car with a 3.8-litre boxer that delivers 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This monstrous power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Together with a set of sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, the massive driveline helped the 911 GT2 RS teleport from virtually zero to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and at 140 km/h, it took 10.3 seconds to complete a quarter mile of towing.
Of course this extraordinary Porsche has moves like Mick Jagger and the mechanical equivalent of telepathy. Its extremely skilful suspension helps the GT2 RS to stay in the curves and still remain viable on normal roads. But don’t confuse this 911 with an everyday driver. The sound of its howling engine is intoxicating on the race track, but can be agonising on long motorway journeys.
