The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 (2019) is positioned between the still young 718 Cayman GTS and a possible GT4 RS, but – as of now – represents the new spearhead of its model series. Visually, the power Cayman is recognizable by its extensively revised aerodynamics: At the front, large air intakes and a striking spoiler lip beg for fresh air; at the side, a greedily positioned air intake faces the airstream; and at the rear, the towering rear spoiler catches the eye at first glance.
The result: up to 50 percent more downforce without adversely affecting drag-at least that’s what Porsche says. Of these, 20 percent are accounted for by said rear wing and 30 percent by the diffuser with embedded sports exhaust system. In other words, at 200 km/h this corresponds to an additional downforce of twelve kilograms, which keeps the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 (2019) in the right lane.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 (2019) is certainly not a showpiece, as it is equipped with a naturally aspirated four-liter six-cylinder engine that sends its 420 hp to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed transmission, which will please Porsche fans.
Incidentally, that’s 35 hp more than the predecessor model. Peak torque is 420 Newton meters, so that the performance sheet shows a top speed of 304 km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. In order not to neglect environmental friendliness in the midst of all the fun, the engine has been cleaned with a gasoline particulate filter and an adaptive cylinder control system reduces consumption. This temporarily “switches off” one of the two cylinder banks. That’s why the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 (2019) is expected to get by on 10.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (NEDC).
