The real Porsche

The 992 is the eighth model generation of the Porsche 911. For the first time in history both, the basic and the S versionm have the same wide butt. The 992 Turbo adds something extra here: it is 1.90 meters wide, which is four centimeters more than the S.

On paper, at least, the new 911 Turbo S is a real winner. According to Zuffenhausen, the 3.8-liter six-cylinder biturbo boxer with 650 hp and 800 Newton meters of torque is a new development. It offers 70 HP and 50 Nm more than its predecessor. The acceleration value to 100 km/h is also enormous: 2.7 seconds! In reality the Porsche even exceeds this value and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

The new Turbo S is very present, its wide hips are equipped with air intakes on the sides. Together with the active rear spoiler, there is up to 170 kilograms of downforce, 15 percent more than before. In this rear section there are continuously adjustable flaps for the air intake system. These flaps provide intercooling in conjunction with the air flow through the grill in the rear spoiler.

The further developed all-wheel drive can now transmit significantly more torque. According to Porsche, up to 500 Newton meters of torque can be transmitted to the front wheels.

As before, active aerodynamics include a kind of “chin spoiler” under the front apron and a rear wing. But the front element is now adjustable in several stages and works together with the rear wing. Among the suspension refinements are new adjustable shock absorbers that take into account 200 calculations per second. Brakes stop at the front with massive 10-piston calipers that bite on larger 16.5-inch carbon fiber ceramic discs.
