The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is the crowning glory of the current model series. Here’s what we know about the sports car’s horsepower, price, and Nürburgring time.
If you thought the Cayman GT4 driving machine was the end of the line, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, priced at a minimum of 141,338 euros (as of November 2021), will prove you wrong. Official photos show the production model, which will conclude the spectacular end of the current model series at the LA Auto Show 2021. Here, too, the familiar four-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, which dispenses with turbocharging, provides goosebumps. 500 instead of 420 hp are on the RS’s spec sheet.
The impressive technical data meet an unladen weight of just 1415 kilograms. But it’s not just the engine that’s been updated; the aerodynamics and chassis have also been sharpened up accordingly. This is visible, among other things, in the new rear spoiler with gooseneck suspension. Whether intentional or not, it thus resembles the current 911 GT3, which also follows the philosophy of maximum driving dynamics. The Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 RS Weissach Package has already proven how well it works before its official premiere on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife: On the 20.6-kilometer lap, it outclassed the GT4 by 23.6 seconds with a lap time of 7:04.511 minutes.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is equipped with the familiar seven-speed PDK transmission as standard: The 500-hp powertrain whips the 718 Cayman GT4 RS to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. Propulsion only ends at 315 km/h – values that were previously reserved for the Porsche 911 and its derivatives. But the most beautiful detail on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is for the ears: It’s the intake noise produced by the air intakes that replace the rear side windows.
Customer sport is also being given its own model: the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport will be delivered starting in 2022 and is scheduled to compete in various national and international competitions right at the start of the 2022 racing season.
