Real life Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach Package
In the 918 Spyder, the gasoline engine fires up the aural and turns the sports hybrid into the ultimate projectile with an additional 608 hp. The two electric motors assist the V8 and provide even more thrust, especially at lower revs. As a result, the 918 develops a power delivery that no other rival, however potent, can match.
Up to the limit of 9150 rpm, the eight-cylinder engine jets through the rev range as if unleashed and hangs on the throttle almost hysterically. The fact that the Porsche takes off like a rocket even at low revs is thanks to the powerful torque support from the two electric motors. The punch of the hybrid drive is reminiscent of that of extreme turbo concepts-with the difference that not the slightest deceleration is felt.
918 Spyder Performance
At full throttle, the 918 Spyder rips away with a system output of 887 hp and a maximum torque of up to 1280 Nm. According to factory specifications, this catapults the carbon-fiber racer with a curb weight of 1599 kg from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. It cracks 200 km/h within 7.3 seconds, and the 300 mark is reached after 20.9 seconds. But even then it doesn’t stop there; the extreme athlete keeps on racing until it reaches its limit at 345 km/h.
Among other things, the sophisticated aerodynamics with smooth underbody, powerful diffuser and sophisticated flow channels and active elements guarantee the necessary grip even at absurd speeds. The most striking feature is certainly the enormous rear wing, which extends from 120 km/h and, together with flaps in the underbody, ensures optimized downforce and a good balance. Mechanical grip is ensured not only by the adaptive chassis but also by Michelin tires in widescreen 325/30 ZR 21 format developed specifically for the Spyder on the rear axle – and by a highly complex all-wheel-drive system.
