The real Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster
After building and selling the five Zonda Cinque Coupe, Pagani built and sold another five special roadster versions even before the automaker had built the first one.
European regulations prohibited Pagani from registering a Zonda R for public road use, so their owners had to trailer them to a race track. Normally, race-ready cars were transported this way, whether they were registered or not. The idea came about when a Hong Kong dealer persuaded the automaker to build five units of the Zonda R, but with some comfort and luxury features.
At the front, the Cinque Roadster had an additional spoiler lip under the apron that increased downforce. On the front fenders, both cars had vents to exhaust air trapped in the wheel well, but on the Cinque, they had four carbon fiber slats running across. A unique detail for the car was the air intake scoop that floated above the cabin like a hook.
Inside, the automaker installed a racing-inspired interior with carbon fiber seat frames, trim and door panels. Since this was still a road-going vehicle, Pagani installed air conditioning and a sound system in the center console. The automaker did not equip the unique Alcantara-covered steering wheel with an airbag, but installed the button for engine adjustment on it.
Pagani offered the five-unit Cinque coupe with a retuned 7.3-liter V-12 AMG engine. It was mated to a unique six-speed sequential transmission that the driver could control via the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel or the gear stick.
