Real life Senna
On March 6, 2018, McLaren presented the Senna at the Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle has a road use approval, but not actually made for the road. That’s what the automaker says about its latest supercar – not surprising with 800 hp and 800 Newton meters.
McLaren installed a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the Senna P15. According to the manufacturer, this is the most powerful McLaren internal combustion engine ever approved for road use (as of 2018). To get to top performance, McLaren configured the powertrain as a mid-engine with rear-wheel drive.
The maximum speed is 340 km/h. From zero to 100 the car is in a rapid 2.8 seconds. If you press the pedal further, 200 km/h are reached four seconds later. At high speeds, the aerodynamics generate an incredible 800 kilograms of downforce.
By focusing on performance, aerodynamics and the reduced weight, the P15 has a starting price of around 922,250 euros. The car is limited to 500 units, which the company says are already sold out. There are 300 hours of manual work in a Senna.
Obviously and incidentally, the supercar bears the name of legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, whom McLaren honors with this car.
