Real life C8 Preliator
After a two-year absence from the shows, Spyker introduced its C8 Preliator at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. For those who don’t know: Spyker was launched as an aircraft manufacturer, the reason why the C8 was an aircraft-inspired car. The logo of the company represented a wheel with a propeller.
The new C8 came with an upgraded chassis, and the supercharged V8 engine produced 525 horsepower. Many would have expected a 2016 sports car to come with an automatic transmission, but the C8 had a manual transmission.
Spyker completely redesigned the interior, using honeycomb stitching to match the grille model. The exterior color was actually an aircraft color with a satin finish.
Inspired by airplanes, Spyker designed the air intakes like a turbine, and the taillights have the shape of an afterburner, which is part of the jet engine of a fighter jet.
The nameplate “Preliator” came from Latin and stood for “warrior” – the company had been through ups and downs and managed to succeed with only a small team of almost 10 people. The Preliator was only produced in 50 units, and as they said, owning an exclusive, unique car meant that the chances of seeing another car like yours at the stop were almost 0.
Spyker wants to do it again: The former sports car noble from the Netherlands wants to build cars again starting in 2021 – in Germany.
