The real Bentley
The Bentley Mulliner Bacalar is a sleek roadster in the style of the Bentley EXP 100 and was supposed to be presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2020. Like the Bentayga, a dreamlike landscape inspired Bentley to the name Bacalar. In this case the lagoon Bacalar on the Mexican peninsula Yucatán. But in contrast to the lagoon, very few people will have the pleasure of experiencing a Bacalar. This is because the bodywork specialist Mulliner, which has been under the Bentley roof since 1959, will produce only twelve units of the roadster. All twelve customers have already been appointed. The company from Crewe has not yet revealed which price Bentley is calling for the Balacar. Obviously it will be expensive.
Rice husk ash is a component of the paintwork on the Mulliner Bacalar, which provides a special metallic finish. The wood inlays come from 5000 year old wood that has survived in the swamps of the Fenlands in eastern England. The fact that the production is completely handcrafted and the customer has full say in making his dream Bentley a reality is part of the good tone.
Even though the Bacalar with its design vocabulary clearly identifies itself as a Bentley, no body panel is derived from other models. Only the door handles are borrowed from the Continental GT. In fact, the term “roadster” does not appear in the Bacalar vocabulary. Instead, the British speak of the “Barchetta” and thus tie in with noble, two-door convertibles from the 1950s, such as those built by Ferrari. Beneath the hood of the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar sits the well-known W12 engine, which produces 659 hp from six liters of displacement and distributes it to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
