McLaren 720S GT3X CSR2, best tune and shift pattern.

The McLaren 720S GT3X is the CSR2 Duality Cup Prize Car of Season 172. Obviously, the GT3X is one of the faster cars in Tier 5.

McLaren 720S GT3X Specifications

Apparently, McLaren’s customer sports department has discovered enough potential in the 720S GT3 race car to create a track tool based on it that is free of most restrictions.

What happens when such a hobby race car doesn’t have to adhere to homologation specifications is made clear by a quick look at the technical data of the McLaren 720S GT3X. The hand-built and twin-turbocharged four-liter V8 produces 720 hp in the newcomer. This is par for the course for the road car, but adds about 200 hp compared to the GT3 race car, where the air supply for the engine is severely restricted by the regulations.

But in the GT3X, the engine offers a special feature: if the driver activates the “push-to-pass” button mounted on the steering wheel, 30 extra hp are briefly available. To ensure that the twin-turbo V8 is also fully throttle-proof, it features new cylinder heads, reinforced pistons and a “Diamond Like Carbon” coating. Added to this are a weight-optimized high-performance exhaust system and a sequential six-speed motorsport transmission.

As is McLaren’s custom, the engine of the 720S GT3X sits in a carbon-fiber monocoque, which is the main reason for the curb weight of just 1,210 kilograms. This makes the track tool 200 kilograms lighter than the street-legal McLaren 720S. Spanning the chassis is a body painted in “Carbon Black Metallic”, whose orange accents bridge the gap to the traditional McLaren race car outfit. A detail at the rear makes the car’s descent from the 720S GT3 clear: an air pressure lance can be attached here, allowing the McLaren to be jacked up in a jiffy for a quick pit stop.

The glossy black center lock wheels wear sticky Pirelli P Zero slick tires. Their design, along with some bodywork tweaks, results in improved cooling for the brakes. According to McLaren, this is necessary because the 720 GT3X can potentially reach significantly higher speeds than the competition car.

There is a second seat on the passenger side if desired, for which the roll cage had to be adapted. Here, two occupants can sit on racing seats made of carbon fiber and Kevlar weighing just ten kilograms and fastened with six-point seat belts. Safety is also ensured by the improved crash structures around the safety cell. The pedal box and racing steering wheel can be adjusted, while the valance’s rotary switches and buttons can be used to operate the most important functions.

The McLaren 720S GT3X can be ordered immediately from the eleven official McLaren Motorsport dealers worldwide; in Germany, only the Frankfurt branch is part of this circle. McLaren is not naming a price. Wherever this will be: It includes a support package that includes racetrack support from engineers from the sports car manufacturer’s customer sports department when the car is first used.
