Ford wants to make its new Focus a big hit in the USA, too. In order to demonstrate the sporty potential of the compact car, various cooperation agreements have already been concluded with well-known tuners in the USA. Some of the Focus ST models have already been pimped out at several trade fairs. But this model, which was shown at the Chicago Auto Show, was created by US tuners fifteen52, Ken Block and Ford Racing and christened the Ford Focus TrackSTer.
The aim of the project was to build the “Todays Hothatch King” – in other words, the “uber-compact car” par excellence. It seems to have succeeded. Even if the TrackSTer has a huge shortcoming – but more on that later. At the heart of the blue racer is the 250-hp Focus ST, which has a turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder under the hood instead of the 2.5-liter five-cylinder of its predecessor. However, various measures are intended to elicit more than 500 hp from the TrackSTer’s engine and thus actually make the car the “Todays Hothatch King”. Unfortunately, no all-wheel drive was installed, so all the power is sent to the front wheels.
Apart from this shortcoming – which is supposed to be mitigated by a special limited slip differential – the TrackSTer is quite appealing. Visually, the Hothatch can score with the cool fenders of the Focus race car from China, white rims and a beautiful rear apron, technically everything has been installed that makes the car suitable for racing (you can find detailed information in the attached press release).
Whether the fifteen52 TrackSTer will ever be let loose on public roads is unfortunately highly doubtful. However, it’s probably safe to assume that some of the parts used will find their way into the US tuner’s product range.
