If you’re into the fast car scene, you’ve probably heard the name Tom Bailey. You’ve probably also heard of his two Camaros, named Sick Seconds 1.0 and 2.0, respectively.
The car and engine combination was built specifically for events like Drag Week. And it has been for the past decade! Tom and Sick Seconds 1.0 have won Drag Week twice (2013 and 2018). In fact, in 2013, Sick Seconds was the first car to run a 6 lap on any day of Drag Week, and the first car to average 6 seconds at the event.
Even more impressive, the car is capable of more than 200 mph in the quarter mile, yet is street legal.
“It can be an everyday car. As long as it’s not raining extremely hard. We drive the car on the road all the time. The car has over 5,000 miles on it.” So says Bailey
That may not sound like a lot of miles to most of us, but for a 3,500-horsepower drag race car, the ability to drive it to the supermarket is super cool. The car’s ability to handle both drag racing and street use is thanks to the Holley EFI system, which offers the ability to switch between different settings and fuel. On the track it runs on race fuel, but on the street it runs on 87 octane.
Another impressive aspect of the car is how dominant it has remained while remaining relatively unchanged under the hood for many years.
That combination is a 615-cubic-inch big-block with twin 88-mm Precision turbos, Carrillo rods, Diamond pistons, an Isky valvetrain, a Rossler 3-speed Turbo 400 transmission, a Gear Vendors overdrive, and a 389 rear-wheel-drive transmission.
