The real Escort
At the beginning of January 1968 Ford presented the Escort with its characteristic radiator grille to the press in Morocco. A few days later, the official presentation took place at the Brussels Motor Show.
From mid 1973 the RS2000 was the top model of the Escort series. It was recognizable by its striking two-tone paintwork and the widened wheel arches at the front. With 74 kW (100 PS) the light Escort achieved many successes in motorsport.
However, the British Escort TwinCam and its successor, the RS1600 with Cosworth BDA-16V engine, were far more successful in international motor sport. The Escort Mk1 RS1600 is one of the most successful racing cars ever made by Ford.
Dynamometer tests showed that the engine delivers 251 hp at 8700 rpm, which is quite impressive for a 1600 cc Twin Cam.
Whoever has an Escort RS 1600 BDA has a fine investment of value. Moreover, it is a great pleasure to drive it, a racing car for the street, which looks so well-behaved on the outside. But the sound alone is a poem. A disadvantage is now the considerable entry price of around 60,000 euros – and that for a car that laymen consider to be a worthless everyday small car. Such a racer with its highly developed technology also needs a lot of attention. The valves have to be adjusted every 5,000 kilometres, and that’s not even done that way.
And: Beware of the many fakes! Externally, any Escort 1 can be trimmed relatively easily to RS. Therefore, it is essential to take an expert with you who knows the finer points of the wild Knochen Ford.
The CSR2 Escort
Here it is, the fastest non-elite car in tier 4. The small and elderly Escort outshines all the modern super cars in Tier 4. The purple star Ford can fit 98 Fusion parts, so far nothing special. The Escort should run the 1/2 mile in 9.749s.
