The XJ220 was created in the so-called Saturday’s Club, a small community of Jaguar

The XJ220 was created in the so-called Saturday’s Club, a small community of Jaguar engineers who met after work. 220 stood for the goal of a top speed of 220 miles per hour, or 354 km/h. The XJ220 was first presented to the public as a concept car in 1988, initially with V12, four-wheel drive and three seats. However, this made the car too heavy and too long, and there was no V12 ready for use. The super sports car was finally built by JaguarSport, a joint venture of Tom Walkinshaw Racing and Jaguar. TWR also supplied the already tested 3.5 litre V6, so this issue was settled and space and weight were saved. Jaguar also dispensed with the four-wheel drive and third seat, so the XJ220 did not become even longer.

Technical data: 3.5 l V6 turbo engine with 549 hp, 1,470 kg weight, 4.93 m length.
The top speed in the end was 213 mph or 342 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The CSR2 XJ220
