The real BMW M5 CS
The limited-edition BMW M5 CS, whose price of at least 180.400 € is once again significantly higher than the Competition, is the first of its kind. The most obvious design feature is the enlarged tear-off edge on the trunk lid, which is typical for Clubsport. We all know the so-called Gurney from the Clubsport variants of the M3 and M4 and M2.
Furthermore, the CS, which is based on the 625 hp Competition, is distinguished by accents in gold bronze. For example, the frame of the kidney grille as well as those of the M gills on the front fenders and tailgate and the rims of the 20-inch forged wheels are in this hue. The BMW M5 CS also gets laser headlights that shine in yellow instead of white when the low and high beams are on.
Under the hood of the BMW M5 CS (2021) works the familiar 4.4-liter eight-cylinder, whose power increases by ten to 635 hp. The torque curve, on the other hand, does not climb any further: It remains at a maximum of 750 Newton meters. At the same time, the CS is around 70 kilograms lighter than the M5 Competition (curb weight: 1970 kg) thanks to the use of lightweight materials and carbon bucket seats from the M3 and M4.
The eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission is responsible for power transmission as standard. Also on board is the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which also offers a setting for pure rear-wheel drive. Equipped in this way, the CS also significantly undercuts the performance of its more down-to-earth brothers, which storm to 100 km/h in 3.4 and 3.3 seconds respectively: the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h is completed in just 3.0 seconds. The top speed of 200 km/h is reached after 10.3 seconds.
The top speed is a governed 305 km/h. An M5 CS sports exhaust system made of stainless steel with four tailpipes is naturally also part of the standard equipment.
