What are horsepower? If we talk about the Devel Sixteen (2017), a hypercar from the Dubai-based company Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry, then everything that has come before is just smoke and mirrors: 5000 hp, 560 km/h and a quad-turbo V16 engine.
There is always someone who is stronger and faster. Is the $2.2 million (€1.95 million) Devel Sixteen (2017) one of them? At first glance, its performance data looks as if the devil himself had issued the vehicle registration certificate. In 2013, Devel boss Raschid al-Attar “fantasized” about a quad-turbo V16 engine with 5,000 hp and a top speed of 560 km/h.
This has so far only earned him praise worldwide. So far, this has only earned him frowns worldwide. At the Dubai Motor Show 2017, however, the company Devel (Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry) presented a near-production version of the Devel Sixteen. Visually still based on an F-15 fighter jet of the U.S. Armed Forces – which was absolutely so intended – but now much more roadworthy than the scary prototype from 2013.
The two-seater crouches just a few inches off the ground, the edge of the roof running just waist-high. At the front, astonished onlookers peer into the “face” of Darth Vader; at the rear, the Devel Sixteen (2017) also likes to pass for a Batmobile. The supposedly 12.3-liter V16 quad-turbo engine breathes into the open air via two XL-sized exhaust tailpipes. Which transmission and clutch can withstand such forces and, above all, the question about the tires and brakes remain unanswered. According to Devel boss Raschid al-Attar, however, there are plans to launch the super sports car in 2019 – then also with a smaller V8 engine and 2,000 or 3,000 hp.
