Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing SPecifications

Fans still remember the wild CTS-V sedan with its brute Corvette V8 and 649 hp. With its successor, the Cadillac CT5-V, the Americans have taken a new path in 2020: V6 instead of V8, turbo instead of supercharger and, above all, an output of “only” 360 hp. How Cadillac plans to make up for this shortcoming? The ten-speed automatic is supposed to distribute the torque of 550 Newton meters more accurately than the eight-speed transmission in the predecessor.

To ensure that the engine power doesn’t just arrive in the form of rubber shreds in the wheel arches, all-wheel drive is available as an option. An electronically controlled limited slip differential is also on board. Furthermore, the sedan is based on the so-called Alpha platform, which relies on rear-wheel drive as standard. Visually, the Cadillac CT5-V (2020) is restrained: Only black accents on the door frame, sills and a mesh radiator grille, a discreet spoiler lip and four tailpipes indicate the four-door’s power. However, we look in vain for huge air vents and carbon add-on parts.

Whereas the CT5-V is rather restrained both visually and on the engine side, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing really comes into its own. For fans of American old-school power, Cadillac squeezes a supercharged V8 from the Corvette into the luxury sedan. The result is 668 hp. And thanks to improved chassis technology, unprecedented dynamics. The Blackwing is also optionally available with a six-speed manual transmission. The brand has already confirmed a top speed of around 320 km/h. Visually, the performance model features a lot of carbon fiber applications – both on the exterior and the interior. However, it remains to be seen whether the American can compete with the top dogs like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E 63.
