Czinger 21C SPecifications
The Czinger 21C is a hypercar with up to 1,350 hp hybrid drive. It is available in two model versions: with optimized top speed or maximum downforce.
Czinger is currently one of the youngest hypercar manufacturers in the world. Among the company’s specialties is parts manufacturing from 3D printers and mills. The Californians had actually planned to unveil their first hypercar, named 21C, which is produced using precisely these processes, at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. After its cancellation, they had moved the premiere to the Internet. The Los Angeles-built hypercar is limited to 80 units and is spectacular in every respect.
The powertrain is an 800-volt-based hybrid strand developed in-house, with a 2.88-liter mid-engine V8 with a flat crankshaft and two electric motors. There is also a belt-driven starter-generator on the crankshaft and lithium titanate batteries as an additional power source. The twin-turbocharged combustion engine revs up to 11,000 rpm – this is where the advantage of the flat crankshaft comes into play.
The Czinger Powertrain
The twin-turbo V8 alone produces 948 hp, the rest is provided by the electric motors positioned at each front wheel. This gives the 21C a system output of 1,250 hp at 10,500 rpm. For an additional charge, the output even increases to 1,350 hp, with both the combustion engine and the electric motors contributing more power. The gears are sorted by an ultra-light seven-speed sequential transmission with multi-plate clutch.
For the quarter-mile, company president Kevin Czinger is touting a time of 8.1 seconds. Top speed is 407 km/h. An early prototype of the 21C circled the Laguna Seca racetrack in a time of 1:25.44 minutes on July 21, 2021.
Looking at the high proportion of carbon fiber, the complex 3D printing manufacturing process and the cost of in-house powertrain development leads to correspondingly high prices: Both with a High Downforce package and in the V-Max variant, it starts at two million dollars, although the price can also be driven up to 2.3 to 2.5 million dollars (the dollar exchange rate currently corresponds almost exactly to the euro exchange rate) depending on the scope of the special requests. However, a little patience is still required: Deliveries will not start until the end of 2023.
